ABOUT

Foburg.

Noir Collective presents Foburg, a brand new 3-day alternative music festival held in 8 or more venues on and around Frenchmen Street on March 12-14, 2010. Foburg will feature rock, indie rock, and alternative artists from the greater Gulf South and national touring artists on their way to SXSW in Austin, TX, which is the following week. Much like SXSW, each showcase will be produced by a Foburg programming partner. Foburg would not happen without these partners.

The name….
We misspelled ‘Faubourg’. That’s the point. Most everyone in New Orleans pronounces things wrong. We took the name of the neighborhood in which the festival is being hosted and twisted it to read the way most people misprounce it. As you know, most indie festivals have silly, but memorable names (IE – Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, …) We wanted Foburg to do the same – but with some sort of New Orleans relevance. It’s a progressive festival because its focus is on rock music and a counterculture on a street that is well known for it’s traditional New Orleans sounds. If we were programming a Jazz Fest or were aiming to represent  French culture, we surely would have used the correct spelling. Heck, even Offbeat agreed that spelling doesn’t matter, check out our article —> here.

Noir Collective
The collective works to build an infrastructure for and raise awareness of the thriving New Orleans music scene.  Presenting shows, releasing samplers and putting on festivals, much like Foburg, are all part of what the collective does.
